We’re hiring Commercial Mechanical and Plumbing Helpers who are ready to grow as professionals with the support and mentorship of our experienced technicians.
Our Helpers work with their team to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain commercial mechanical and plumbing systems and equipment while learning the intricacies of the trade. We love nothing more than to teach and promote from within. That’s a big part of how we create a loyal team and a strong company culture that has kept us at the top of our game for more than three decades.
What We’re Looking for in Our Helpers
Our Helpers are typically, though not always, young adults ready to carve out a career in the commercial HVAC or plumbing industries. Occasionally, they may have some experience. Often, they don’t.
That’s OK.
What we’re looking for most of all is someone who is driven to succeed, who displays a strong and contagious work ethic, and who shows up every day with a positive attitude and outlook.
Knowledge and skills can be taught. Drive comes from within.
Our hiring process begins with a phone call, after which promising candidates will be invited for an in-person interview. If you demonstrate the ambition and drive we’re looking for, and if it seems like a good fit for all parties, you’ll be hired and we’ll be ready to get you on the team soon.
In your first weeks with Calvert Controls, you’ll get a broad range of experience in a short amount of time. We’ll move you through various departments within the company, giving you a taste for everything this trade encompasses and the various types of equipment we work on.
You’ll work hand in hand with our Journeymen. They’ll teach and guide you. They’ll also watch to see that you’re bringing an appetite for learning and a strong work ethic to the job each day.
If you’ve made a good impression on our Journeymen, you’ll be ready for the next step.
The Support of Your Local Union
Once you’ve shown us that you’re the right person for the job and someone who can grow with Calvert Controls, we’ll help you gain union membership — either SteamFitters UA Local 602 or Washington, DC, Local 5 Plumbers and Gasfitters.
